Review: The Future of Us

The Future of Us
It's 1996, and less than half of all American high school students have ever used the Internet.
Emma just got her first computer and an America Online CD-ROM.
Josh is her best friend. They power up and log on--and discover themselves on Facebook, fifteen years in the future.
Everybody wonders what their Destiny will be. Josh and Emma are about to find out.

The Future of Us was one book I had been looking forward to reading ALL year. I mean, another book by Jay Asher? Amazing. A collaboration with Carolyn Mackler? *jaw drops* cue the excitement.

The concept of this book is so unique. The two main characters can glimpse into the future through Facebook, which hasn't even been invented yet.
Emma has these walls built up to make sure she doesn't get hurt but I feel like that doesn't allow her to be happy. I didn't really connect with her. To me she came off as whinny and constantly complaining but her character developed throughout the book and I ended up liking her more. Josh on the other hand was more my style of main character. He is cautious and somewhat shy and I liked that.
The story was kind of slow but very interesting. The alternating perspectives were a bit difficult to follow because both main characters had similar voices but I really love novels from different perspectives and this one did not disappoint. The ending wrapped up everything really well and near the end the book picked up and I could not stop reading until I was finished.

Review: Between the Sea and Sky

Between the Sea and Sky
For as long as Esmerine can remember, she has longed to join her older sister, Dosinia, as a siren--the highest calling a mermaid can have. When Dosinia runs away to the mainland, Esmerine is sent to retrieve her. Using magic to transform her tail into legs, she makes her way unsteadily to the capital city. There she comes upon a friend she hasn't seen since childhood--a dashing young man named Alandare, who belongs to a winged race of people. As Esmerine and Alandare band together to search for Dosinia, they rekindle a friendship . . . and ignite the emotions for a love so great, it cannot be bound by sea, land, or air.

When I started this book I had no idea what I was going into. I bought it the day before the signing and just went right into it.

Esmerine is the main character and she has just become a siren. Being a siren is an honor any mermaid would be excited to be chosen for. Esmerine is so sweet and nice. She doubts herself in an innocent sort of way and I loved that. Her and her sister have always been curious about living on land and especially the guys on land the difference is that Esmerine would never test her curiosity like her sister Dosia. But when Dosia goes missing, she takes it upon herself to go find her.

Alander is a fandarsee, which are these beings with wings. When I first met him in the story I did not like him at all. I felt like he was distancing himself and being cold towards Esmerine. I just wanted to hug her every time he spoke. But about half-way through the book he started warming up and I realized he wasn't so bad, he was just protecting his heart. He later became so sensitive and loveable. He helps Esmerine find her sister and shows that he really cares for her. My favorite line was:
"If anyone asks, we are married," he whispered. "I'm not letting you out of my sight here."
The story itself was so dreamy and amazing. It was so different from what I have read. Jaclyn just creates this amazing fantasy and world where these beautiful creatures exist. I was so into the story and it was beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. I felt like my heart was being played with throughout their entire trek to find Dosia. The ending was so sweet and cute. It literally made me sit there smiling at my book like an idiot and that's all I'm saying about that. So go read this book :)

Waiting on Wednesday

“Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

Destined
When Psyche receives a prophecy gone horribly wrong, she learns that even the most beautiful girl in Greece can have a hideous future. Her fate? Fall in love with the one creature even the gods fear.
As she feels herself slipping closer into the arms of the prophecy, Psyche must choose between the terrifyingly tender touch she feels almost powerless to resist and the one constant she's come to expect out of life: you cannot escape what is destined.
Destined is a fresh and heartachingly romantic retelling of the Cupid & Psyche myth from debut novelist, Jessie Harrell.

I've been dying for this book since I first heard about it. It looks so amazing. I mean, a story about Cupid and Psyche?! I need to get my hands on this as soon as possible. I love, love, LOVE myth retellings and this one sounds like it's going to rock my socks! :)
Plus look at that cover, it looks so elegant and simple. Love it! :)
What are you guys waiting for? Let me know!
