Waiting on Wednesday: The Lost Girl by Sangu Mandanna

The Lost Girl
Eva’s life is not her own. She is a creation, an abomination—an echo. Made by the Weavers as a copy of someone else, she is expected to replace a girl named Amarra, her “other”, if she ever died. Eva studies what Amarra does, what she eats, what it’s like to kiss her boyfriend, Ray. So when Amarra is killed in a car crash, Eva should be ready.
But fifteen years of studying never prepared her for this.
Now she must abandon everything she’s ever known—the guardians who raised her, the boy she’s forbidden to love—to move to India and convince the world that Amarra is still alive.

What an interesting concept. It seems different and new so I can't wait to have this in my hands. Also, that cover? GORGEOUS. I love it!

Review: In Too Deep by Amanda Grace

In Too Deep
I never meant for anyone to get hurt. All I wanted to do that night was make a play for Carter Wellesley. His heartless rejection was mortifying, but people got the wrong idea when they saw me leaving his bedroom, crying. That's how rumors of rape started. Now girls at school are pouring out their sympathy to me. Guys too. But not everyone's on my side. The school has become a war zone and the threats are getting scary. What began as poetic justice has morphed into something bigger--forcing me to make a terrible choice.
Goodreads: In Too Deep

Samantha is in love with her best friend. She would do anything to get his attention and finally once and for all figure out if he really loves her as more than just his friend. Anything means trying to get the most popular player in school to pay attention to her just to make Nick jealous. Except things don't exactly end up that way. Sam gets humiliated and by Monday everyone at school thinks Carter raped her. But he didn't.

I went into this book with high hopes. I loved Amanda Grace's other book, But I Love Him, and thought it was a wonderful, touching story. While it touched a difficult topic, it was very well executed. Unfortunately, I didn't end up feeling the same about this one. Most of the time I just didn't connect with the main character. She made some very questionable decisions. I enjoyed it at first but after a while I just became frustrated with Samantha. Why couldn't she just come clean about everything and tell the truth? I understand that the rumor was a tough one but in my opinion that would have just made me want to put an end to it sooner rather than later. Sam just kept beating around the bush and putting it off until the next day and the next, until she put herself into a situation that she couldn't come out of with any dignity.

By mid book I actually found myself feeling bad for Carter, the guy who supposedly raped Sam. He did nothing to deserve the rumor. Yeah, he was an ass to some of the girls at the school (typical bad boy, player type) but he never raped anyone. There was a particular moment where he sounded so broken and I just wanted to shake Sam and tell her to do the right thing.

What I did enjoy was Sam and Nick's friendship. I thought it was very sweet and it was amazing seeing how much Nick cared for her. How he believed her so quickly and took her side no questions asked.

Near the end I did find myself more interested in the story. It picked up and didn't stop until the very last page. Even though I didn't particularly like the build up I thought the ending was very fitting. Everything that happened was for a reason and it was believable. All in all I did not enjoy this one as much as I wanted to but I do believe it is a topic that should be discussed.

Waiting on Wednesday: Breathe by Sarah Crossan

Breathe (Breathe, #1)
Inhale. Exhale. Breathe. Breathe. Breathe . . .
The world is dead. The survivors live under the protection of Breathe, the corporation that found a way to manufacture oxygen-rich air.
ALINA has been stealing for a long time. She’s a little jittery, but not terrified. All she knows is that she’s never been caught before. If she’s careful, it’ll be easy. If she’s careful.
QUINN should be worried about Alina and a bit afraid for himself, too, but even though this is dangerous, it’s also the most interesting thing to happen to him in ages. It isn’t every day that the girl of your dreams asks you to rescue her.
BEA wants to tell him that none of this is fair; they’d planned a trip together, the two of them, and she’d hoped he’d discover her out here, not another girl.
And as they walk into the Outlands with two days’ worth of oxygen in their tanks, everything they believe will be shattered. Will they be able to make it back? Will they want to?
*Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine*

This sounds EPIC. It seems to have the makings of a great dystopian. I already want to know what will happen to Alina, Quinn and Bea. Also, the cover is really unique and I love the color scheme. All in all, October 2nd could not get here any faster.

Book Signing: Jenny Torres Sanchez

Today is the official release day for The Downside of Being Charlie by Jenny Torres Sanchez. If you guys haven't checked it out yet here is the summary:

The Downside of Being Charlie
Charlie is handed a crappy senior year. Despite losing thirty pounds over the summer, he still gets called “Chunks” Grisner. What’s worse, he has to share a locker with the biggest Lord of the Rings freak his school has ever seen. He also can’t figure out whether Charlotte VanderKleaton, the beautiful strawberry lip-glossed new girl, likes him the way he likes her. Oh, and then there’s his mom. She’s disappeared—again—and his dad won’t talk about it.
Somewhere between the madness, Charlie can at least find comfort in his one and only talent that just might get him out of this life-sucking place. But will he be able to hold his head above water in the meantime?

Let me tell you a little secret. Living in my area is absolutely no fun when it comes to book signings. There are never any signings, so when I heard about Jenny's signing I was so excited! I went with my friend and we had a blast. Jenny was incredibly nice and it was great to meet her.

My book signed (something rare in my neck of the woods):

You guys can find out more information about Jenny and her book here, and you guys can even read the first chapter. It's been getting great reviews so don't forget to pick up your copy soon!

*Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine*

Seriously guys, I think this might be one of my most anticipated books of the year. I absolutely loved the first book, A Beautiful Dark. If you want to see just how much I loved it you can go to my review of it here. It should give you an idea of why I want this book in my hands so badly. The ending was a huge cliffhanger and I need to know what happens! Also, this cover is so dark and mysterious compared to the first one so I'm guessing this book might be a lot darker. Plus there are two amazing guys in this series and I wouldn't mind reading more about them :)

Have you read A Beautiful Dark yet? What did you think? Let me know what you guys are waiting for below too so I can check it out! :)

Teaser Tuesday: In Too Deep by Amanda Grace

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
In Too DeepSam is in love with her best friend Nick, but she can’t seem to tell him. So she decides to flirt with golden-boy Carter Wellesley, hoping Nick will see it and finally realize his true feelings for her.
On Monday, everyone at school is saying that Carter raped Sam. He didn’t, but Sam can’t find the words to tell the truth. Worst of all, she’s afraid she’ll lose Nick if he finds out what really happened.
As graduation approaches, Sam discovers that living the lie isn’t as easy as her new friends make it sound—and telling the truth might be even worse.

My Teaser:
"'That is not a skirt. That is a Band-Aid.'
I snort. 'You know as well as I do that Carter won't take a second look at me if I'm dressed the same as always.'
I think he flinches when I say 'Carter.' I also think I've imagined it. This is the game in my head every time I'm around Nick these days. The 'does he, doesn't he' game. I hate it. And tonight it ends."
Pg. 5

I'm not very far in this book but it is very raw and emotional so far. I'm really enjoying it and it is not too long. What do you think of the teaser?

Review: The Night She Disappeared by April Henry

The Night She Disappeared
Gabie drives a Mini Cooper. She also works part time as a delivery girl at Pete’s Pizza. One night, Kayla—another delivery girl—goes missing. To her horror, Gabie learns that the supposed kidnapper had asked if the girl in the Mini Cooper was working that night. Gabie can’t move beyond the fact that Kayla’s fate was really meant for her, and she becomes obsessed with finding Kayla. She teams up with Drew, who also works at Pete’s. Together, they set out to prove that Kayla isn’t dead—and to find her before she is.

I am a HUGE fan of mystery books. I think it might have something to do with my choice in career. I'm currently working towards being a forensic psychologist, you know, working with killers, criminal profiling, that sort of thing. So this book was right up my alley.

Gabie can't help but think that it was her who was supposed to be kidnapped that fateful night. The kidnapper asked for her and now she has a feeling that Kayla isn't dead. Gabie feels somewhat responsible with having to find her.

I really enjoyed the way this book was organized. We got to read the perspectives of almost everyone in the book. Some chapters were told from the kidnapper's point of view and the others from Gabie, Kayla, and Drew's points of view. Aside from that, the book also incorporates different media. There are clips from newspapers, notes, transcripts of conversations, 911 calls, and even some pamphlets. To me those really brought the story to another level. They help the reader feel involved in the story.

The romance in the book is very subtle. Gabie and Drew clearly have a thing for each other but Gabie is too focused on the kidnapping to even pay attention to it. The romance is definitely a second thought in this book. The scary part for me is the thought of how easily this could happen in real life. The reality of the situation was what kept me at the edge of my seat.

I would recommend this book to people who enjoy a good mystery. There is nothing too out of this world in the book, it is just a regular mystery that keeps you hooked. So if you love fast paced mystery reads, then this one is definitely for you.

Waiting on Wednesday: The Best Night of Your (Pathetic) Life by Tera Altebrando

The Best Night of Your (Pathetic) Life
An all-day scavenger hunt in the name of eternal small-town glory

With only a week until graduation, there's one last thing Mary and her friends must do together: participate in the Oyster Point High Official Unofficial Senior Week Scavenger Hunt. And Mary is determined to win.

Mary lost her spot at Georgetown to self-professed "it" bully Jake Barbone, and she's not about to lose again. But everyone is racing for the finish line with complicated motives, and the team's all-night adventure becomes all-night drama as shifting alliances, flared tempers, and crushing crushes take over. As the items and points pile up, Mary and her team must reinvent their strategy--and themselves--in order to win.
*Hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine*

This sounds like a fun contemporary read with lots of drama. But it also seems like it could have some hilarious and fun moments. So I can't wait to be able to read it :) Also, I love that cover. It seems very fitting to the story (no girl in a dress, thank God) and the colors are so bright!
What do you guys think? Let me know below! And don't forget to leave you links so I can see what you guys are waiting for.

Review: Cold Kiss by Amy Garvey

Cold Kiss
When her boyfriend, Danny, is killed in a car accident, Wren can’t imagine living without him. Wild with grief, she uses the untamed powers she’s inherited to bring him back. But the Danny who returns is just a shell of the boy she once loved.
Wren has spent four months keeping Danny hidden, while her life slowly unravels around her. Then Gabriel DeMarnes transfers to her school and somehow, inexplicably, he can sense her secret. Wren finds herself drawn to Gabriel, who is so much more alive than the ghost of the boy she loved. But Wren can’t turn her back on Danny or the choice she made for him—and she realizes she must find a way to make things right, even if it means breaking her own heart.

What if the love of your life died and you could find a way to bring him back? Would you do it? Would you take into account the consequences it could bring? For both you and him? Wren definitely brought back Danny, the guy she swore was the love of her life, but missed the part where she took into account the consequences of her actions.

When I first started this book I went into it with something completely different in mind from what it really turned out to be. I thought this was going to be about a necromancer who brought back her dead boyfriend but it is about so much more. Wren doesn't only have the power to bring back the dead, she is a sort of witch. There is a power within her that allows her to levitate, and do a lot of other types of magic. She actually even uses spell books. So now that that has been cleared up, I really enjoyed this book. It was a very quick read and I finished it in a day.

The characters weren't the most engaging but somehow still managed to catch my heart. I felt for Wren. Wren was very selfish but during the book she understands that what she did was very wrong. The decisions she made were wrong most of the time but she had so much going on in her life. And Wren has no one to guide her since her mom is basically in denial about their powers. She refuses to talk to her daughters about them at all. That being the case, Wren admits from the beginning that she made wrong choices and has to fix them on her own. Moving on to the zombie boyfriend, Danny. If you guys follow my blog for a while you guys will notice that I am completely zombie crazy. I love anything zombie and usually they don't really scare me. But I have to admit that Amy Garvey created a scenario where I was actually creeped out by Danny. He is the kind of zombie created with a sort of voodoo magic and can then be controlled by the creator or the person that raised him. Things like that are actually said to happen in places like Haiti so that concept had me reading his parts with the lights on and during the day.

There was one part of this book that I had a hard time with. Fairly soon in the book we  meet Gabriel. A mysterious boy fascinated by Wren and her powers. I really liked his character. He was mysterious but sweet and caring. And that was the problem. Gabriel was so caring and attached to Wren and she treated him so awful at times. I just wanted to crawl into the book and take him away from her during those hateful flashes. That was the only thing I didn't like in this book so I will be looking forward to the sequel. I thought it was a standalone because it can stand on it's own and had a very conclusive ending but who can say no to a sequel, especially when the cover looks like this:

 Glass Heart

Isn't that beautiful?

Bookmark It!

I have a meme that I created a while back but I had to put it on hold until I got everything more organized. Now that my semester is over everything has settled down. So, without further ado, Bookmark It! is back and this week's featured bookmark is for Die For Me by Amy Plum. With the release of it in paperback I thought it would be a good time for the bookmark giveaway.

Die for Me (Revenants, #1)In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.

When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.

Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate's guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he's a revenant--an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again.

Review: Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver

Pandemonium (Delirium, #2)
I'm pushing aside the memory of my nightmare, pushing aside thoughts of Alex, pushing aside thoughts of Hana and my old school, push, push, push, like Raven taught me to do.The old life is dead. But the old Lena is dead too.I buried her.I left her beyond a fence, behind a wall of smoke and flame.

*will contain spoilers if you haven't read Delirium yet*

This book picks up right where Delirium left us hanging. Right after Lena and Alex attempt their escape from Portland. The only thing is that Alex doesn't exactly make it over the fence. Lena is out in the Wild on her own with no one to guide her. The one thing that keeps her going is her denial that Alex is gone. She wants to believe that he is there, that he will make everything right.

Pandemonium was so well crafted. I loved the writing. The story is told in alternating time periods. There is the Then, which is Lena's time in the Wild, and the Now, which is a few months later. I enjoyed this book, and the characters in it, even more than I enjoyed Delirium. Delirium gives you this whole new world and these emotions but Pandemonium actually lets you explore more of this world. The reader gets to see how the world works on the other side of the fence, from the invalids perspective. A lot of information is revealed about how the people who live in the Wild and how they have managed to survive out there all these years.

Lauren Oliver also gives us a whole selection of new characters that each have such different personalities and does a great job with them. Raven tries to be so strong for everyone while Tac is quiet and serious. Then we meet Julian and what a great addition. I thought it was interesting to see Lena being on the other side and Julian being the one who wanted to be cured. I loved getting to see how the roles were switched and how Lena dealt with all the issues Alex had to go through when she was afraid to love.

And then there's the ending. Three pages away from the end I felt my heart being torn. I didn't know I could feel so many emotions and I could not focus on anything else for days after finishing it.

Overall this was definitely my favorite out of the two books and could possibly be one of my favorite books of the year. There is a lot more action in Pandemonium and the revolution against the government really takes off. If you had any doubts as to whether you were going to be picking this one up I hope that they are gone because this was a great read.

Waiting On Wednesday

From What I Remember...
KYLIE: Tijuana WHAT? I should be putting the finishing touches on my valedictorian speech. Graduation is TODAY, and is this a wedding band on my finger.
MAX: It all started with Kylie's laptop and a truck full of stolen electronics Okay, it was kind of hot, the way she broke us out like some chick in an action movie. But now we're stranded in TIjuana. WIth less than twenty-four hours before graduation. Awesome.

WILL: Saving Kylie Flores from herself is kind of a full-time occupation. Luckily, I, Will Bixby, was born for the job. And when I found out she was stuck in Mexico with dreamy Max Langston, sure, I agreed to bring thier passports across the border--but there's no reason to rush back home right away. This party is just getting started.

LILY: I just walked in on my boyfriend, Max Langston, canoodling with Kylie Flores, freak of the century. Still, I can't completely hold it against him. He NEEDS me. It's even clearer now. And I'm not giving him up without a fight.

Waiting On Wednesday is where we share the books we are eagerly waiting for. It is hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine.

They compared this to the Hangover for teens? I'm there. This sounds like a hilarious read. Although the cover isn't something I would be instantly attracted to, it is definitely a very unique cover. I have a feeling it says a lot about the story. The great part is that if you guys are as excited for this as I am, there is not much waiting to do. It comes out May 15th!
Let me know what you guys think and if you will be adding it to your tbr lists.

Top Ten Books I'd Like To See Made Into A Movie

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Broke and Bookish.

So today on the Top Ten feature two of my loves collide. I absolutely adore movies and I obviously love books. So without further ado, here are my top ten books I want to see made into movies.

I'd Tell You I Love You, But Then I'd Have to Kill You (Gallagher Girls, #1)
1. I'd Tell You I Love You But Then I'd Have To Kill You by Ally Carter
I have been waiting for a movie based on this since I first read the book. There is just so much potential for a movie here. This series has romance, action scenes and bad ass girl spies. What more could you ask for in a book or a movie?
City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)
2. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
I know this is already in the process of being made but I am still very excited for this. Lilly Collins is playing Clary and Jamie Campbell Bower is playing Jace. I know some people are iffy about the actors but I can't wait to see how they bring these characters to life.
If I Stay
3. If I Stay by Gayle Forman
This was one of my favorite books I read last year. I also devoured the sequel in one day. I really want to see these characters on the big screen. There is so much emotion in this book and I would love to see how they portray it.
Before I Fall
4. Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver
As the book before, this one is full of emotion. I took it on vacation with me one year and after reading it I could not stop thinking about it for weeks. Every time I thought about the book I was a mess of emotions all over again. I think this would make a great movie and offer something different to movie goers.
The Forest of Hands and Teeth (The Forest of Hands and Teeth, #1)
5. The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
ZOMBIES. That is all. I love zombies and I love this book and I need to see this on the big screen soon. I think this would make a great horror/action/somewhat romance movie.
Divergent (Divergent, #1)
6. Divergent by Veronica Roth
Having just read this at the beginning of April I think it is a great dystopian and in my opinion we need more dystopian type movies. This would make a great film for lovers of The Hunger Games. If you have not read it yet, do it. It's great.
Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1)
7. Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins
Oh this series, I just finished the trilogy in April and it had me laughing all the way through. This would make a great action packed movie with bits of comedy thrown in every now and then. Bad ass sarcastic main characters are my thing in movies and books and this main character definitely fits those qualities.
Dash & Lily's Book of Dares
8. Dash and Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan
I loved Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist both the book and the movie. But I loved this book even more so this book being made into a movie would make me extremely happy.
Unearthly (Unearthly, #1)
9. Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
Angel books are very popular these days but this series made me see them in a totally different light and made me fall in love with them. Plus, I would not mind seeing the two hot boys, Tucker and Christian, on the big screen ;)
One Night That Changes Everything
10. One Night by Lauren Barndholt
This would be one of those funny revenge kind of comedies. Something like John Tucker Must Die and She's The Man. Personally, there can never be too many of those movies.

That is my list of books I would love to see on the big screen. Any books you see here that you agree with or any you would personally add to your list? Let me know below :)
