Zombies Vs. Unicorns: Last Day!

Guest Post: Zombies Impact on Our Culture

Today I have Katie from Call Me Crazy here on the blog to tell us a little bit more about the awesomeness that are zombies (you know, in case you were forgetting). Zombies are better than Unicorns and below are just a few reasons why :) So, *HIYA KATIE*.

Not only am I Team Zombie because they are just totally badass, but because they have made a huge impact on our culture. You don't hear people preparing for the Unicorn Apocalypse! No! You read about everyone freaking out over when Zombies are going to take over our freaking world! They're in movies, music and even everyday decorations for our homes! Take that Unicorns!

There's been tons of movies like Dawn of the Dead and 28 Days Later dedicated to kicking some Zombie butt! My all time favorite Zombie movie is without a doubt, Zombieland! I mean what could be more exciting than watching Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson trying to survive on a world after the Zombie Apocalypse?! I just don't think the movie would have been quite as awesome (or as hilarious) if Tallahassee was shooting Unicorns out of his way in order to get his hands on a Twinkie.

And, of course, there is the most well known music video of all time, Thriller, by Micheal Jackson. The whole video was centered around Zombies! I really don't think the dance in the middle of the video would have been as cool and iconic if they busted out moves to mock a unicorn. I think it would have been a mixture between galloping around and putting a finger on top of your heard to mimic the horn.

So not only have Zombies taken over movies and music, but they're slowly coming into our homes! Don't worry though, it's in all the right ways! I mean you can warn trespassers to stay off you property instead of being the mean old lady who chases kids off her lawn, the Zombie sign will do it for you! Then there's Zombie bedding that you can put in your guest room to make guests feel errr very welcome to your home? Yeah, let's go with that! There's also Zombie jewelry for when your on the go, possibly something shiny to distract Zombies during the Apocalypse!

Bring Out Your Dead! – 5 Benefits of the Zombie Apocalypse

People keep talking about the zombie apocalypse like it’s a bad thing. I think we’re looking at this all wrong. Instead of focusing on the negatives, let’s look at the positives. Let’s be glass-half-full people. Because an army of walking corpses can’t be ALL bad, right? So, without further ado, I present you with five benefits of the zombie apocalypse.

1.  I think we all know THAT GUY. He’s the one who does faux ninja moves in public, and he has a black belt that he got via correspondence course, and major weapons expertise gleaned from Wikipedia. I don’t know about you, but I feel kind of bad for THAT GUY. People laugh at him. They don’t take his mad combat skills seriously. In the post-zombie wasteland, THAT GUY would be an asset. He could save the day—possibly by thinking that he really is a black belt, trying to fight off the zombies by hand, and getting eaten, but the day is still saved, right?
2. During the zombie apocalypse, you’ll have the opportunity to test out all those theories that you talk about with your friends (or maybe that’s just me). Like, could you really kill a zombie with a lawn flamingo? (I vote YES.) If you climbed up on the roof and dropped a toilet on the head of a zombie, would it die? (I vote YES AGAIN.) Do zombies look sexy in sparkle makeup? (I vote BAHAHAHAHAHA.) These are things we need to know, and the only way we’ll find out is if the dead rise from their graves.
3. The zombie apocalypse gives you a handy excuse to avoid the things you don’t want to do. Don’t like to wash dishes? “Sorry, honey! I couldn't get to the dishwasher. Zombie attack.” Running out of ways to get off the phone with that annoying person who just keeps on TALKING? “Sorry! Gotta run! Zombies at the door!” It’s hard to argue with the zombie excuse. Frankly, I think I might try it and see what happens.
4. Zombies offer lots of romance opportunities for people who have problems relating to the opposite sex. Don’t know what to say to that cute person at the coffee shop? Wait until they get zombified, and then they won’t care what you’ve got to say! They’ll want you anyway, and sure, you’ll need to carry a cattle prod at all times, but that’s okay. Or if you’re not comfortable with the cattle prod, I suggest a lawn flamingo or that guy from number 1.
5.  Two words: Zombie. Bowling.

Frankly, after reading this list, I’m kind of looking forward to the zombocalypse. I also think I might need therapy.

Zombies Have Taken Over Valentine's Day

Well, today is Valentine's Day! As you can probably tell, I have converted my blog into a ROCKING place to visit if you ever forget how awesome zombies are (and start slipping into Unicorn territory :P) and today is no different. If you want to celebrate Valentine's day zombie style, scroll below.

Now we all know Valentine's day is nothing without some yummy candy. Here are some delicious treats that will surely have your valentine swooning over you:
 
Gummy brains, and they come freshly packaged :P You can get those at this neat website filled with weird foods here. I would also say edible dry zombie skin would go well with this theme but...I think gummy brains definitely taste better. Although, if you still want that zombie skin you can also get it here.

How To Show Your Zombie Boyfriend You Love Him on Valentine’s Day!

So with Valentine’s Day coming up I know many of you are preparing to show your zombie boyfriend that you love him. You’re not? Well we have to get started on that because having a zombie boyfriend is not like having a normal one I tell you! So, if you need some ideas on how to take care of that special man of yours keep reading.

·         Don’t buy him Chocolate….he has a craving for brains.  Most men and women enjoy exchanging chocolates on Valentine’s Day but not this guy. He’s looking for brains and the fresher the better. Also, you don’t have to go on a murderous rampage to get them but you might have to sneak by your local laboratory to pick some up. They may not be the freshest but they sure will make him happy. Now, if you’re in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and you have to pick off a human or two go head and grab a brain, everyone is doing it!

·         Untie him from the pole for today only: You know how you keep him tied to the pole in the back yard so he doesn’t try to eat the neighbors? Well, today you can give him a bit of a break and untie him.  Take him for a walk around the block (you don’t want to go too far; remember how slow he is). Don’t let him run too wild. You’re going to have to keep him on a leash though because if he is free to walk around as he pleases he might start an epidemic! He will appreciate the once a year scenery change.

·         Don’t take him to a restaurant.  Ok, this is kind of self explanatory. Imagine if someone took you to a restaurant where the customers were big ol’ juicy stakes and you couldn’t eat any of them! Wouldn’t that be horrible? Well, that is how your Zombie boyfriend is feeling.  He will appreciate a quiet at home dinner, cuffed to the table and drooling over you.

·         Keep gift giving simple.  I don’t know if you’ve noticed but, your man doesn’t talk a lot so it might be kind of hard to shop for him. This tip is extremely valuable because what you give him this Valentine’s Day will benefit both him and you! Get your moaning and groaning hubby some sweet (but manly) smelling lotion on the 14^th. This is going to benefit you because we all know those zombies can get kind of funky every now and then.  That manly smelling lotion can really make your man smell more pleasant. The lotion will help him because it will help soothe that dry, falling off skin he’s got going there. See, everyone is happy and isn’t that what everyone is about?

Hopefully these tips will help you and your brain eating hubby have a happy and fun Valentine’s Day. Remember to keep it Team Zombie!

Hi everyone, I came over to my Team Zombie partner's blog to say hi *waves* and give you my top 5 Zombie movies!

5: Resident evil

I've always loved the Resident Evil movies. I love how Milla Jovovich is a really bad-ass female heroine. I also enjoyed watching my boyfriends play the games in high school, though I never played myself. My nerves would be shot!

4: Pet Sematary

Zombie cats! Enough said!

3: 28 Days Later

This is probably the most scariest zombie movie that I've watched. These are not slow, sluggish zombies. They're fast and they're highly aggressive. This can NOT be good in a zombocalypse!

2: Return of the Living Dead

This one's the very first zombie movie I ever watched: it popped my zombie cherry! So I have always loved it. It has a great mix of gore and humor. And that scene where the zombie comes out of the basement door screaming "BRRAAAAAIIINSS" is pretty effin awesome!

1: Zombieland

OK this is the funniest zombie movie ever made; it's just pure masterful, can be used as a guide for when zombies come (and don't kid yourself - they're coming), all that with a great cast to boot. I can often be found quoting rules from their zombie survival guide. My favorite: Rule number 18: Limber Up! For all of the rules, click here.

Review: Bougainvillea (Zombies vs. Unicorns)

It's a question as old as time itself: which is better, the zombie or the unicorn? In this anthology, edited by Holly Black and Justine Larbalestier (unicorn and zombie, respectively), strong arguments are made for both sides in the form of short stories. Half of the stories portray the strengths--for good and evil--of unicorns and half show the good (and really, really bad-ass) side of zombies. Contributors include many bestselling teen authors, including Cassandra Clare, Libba Bray, Maureen Johnson, Meg Cabot, Scott Westerfeld, and Margo Lanagan. This anthology will have everyone asking: Team Zombie or Team Unicorn?

When I first came across this book and saw that Carrie Ryan had written one of the zombie short stories I told myself that if I ever read this book I would start with that story. Carrie Ryan is the author of The Forest of Hands and Teeth series/companion novels. I love her take on zombies and this short story did not disappoint.

Bougainvillea

The story is so well written and unfolds in such a manner. The main character, Iza has grown up with her father who is a strong-willed man that's used to being in charge. This short story touches on what and who you would be willing to sacrifice to survive. It also delves into the line between right and wrong and just being plain ruthless. What would you be willing to do to keep yourself and those you care for alive? 

The zombies from this story are called mudo, which means mute. I believe they are the same zombies from her past book The Dead Tossed Waves but this story takes place in very modern times, which makes it even creepier. There is mention of Facebook and Twitter, and did I mention there are PIRATES! Yes!

Overall I thought the story and main character were very well developed. It didn't feel like a short story to me and I would love to read more about Iza.

As you all know I am part of Zombies vs. Unicorns which is taking place this month. I had checked out Zombies vs. Unicorns from the library because I have been spending so much on books but this week I got a 20% B&N coupon so I rushed out and grabbed my own copy. It is such an EPIC book.

I won an arc of Sweet Venom a while back but the blogger hadn't read it yet so I told her there was no rush. It came in this week and I am more than excited to get to it. I've heard such great things.

From random buzzers I used my buzz bucks to get a copy of You Have Seven Messages. I have heard mixed reviews about this one so if you have read it please let me know what you thought :)
